Mugicha is a Japanese barley tea made by roasting whole barley grains over heat, developing their colour and aroma as they roast. TeaFit's Mugicha uses organic pearl barley grown by farmers in Nashik, Maharashtra, roasted in the traditional Japanese style and built for a cup that is smooth, warm, and easy to drink.

This is not a leaf tea at all. Roasting the barley brings out a delicate nutty sweetness. The result is a cup with a clean, toasty finish.

At its core, this comes down to the grain. Barley carries no caffeine to begin with, roasted or not, which is why Mugicha is genuinely caffeine free rather than just low. It works any time of day - morning, after meals, or right before bed, when you want a warm cup without any caffeine at all.

The resealable pouch keeps the roasted barley away from light and moisture between servings, so the cup you brew on day one and the cup you brew three weeks later still carry the same toasted aroma.

It works hot, steeped a few minutes and strained, or cold, brewed in the fridge and served over ice. TeaFit Mugicha carries zero caffeine, making it a cup you can have anytime, and especially right before bed.

Frequently Asked Questions

All you wanted to know about Mugicha

What is in the TeaFit Mugicha pouch?

TeaFit Mugicha is 100 percent organic roasted barley, sourced from farmers in Nashik, Maharashtra, and nothing else. Each pouch contains zero added sugar, zero artificial sweetener, zero maltodextrin, zero flavouring, zero synthetic colour, zero preservatives, and no tea leaf of any kind.

Is TeaFit Mugicha sugar free?

Yes, by formulation. TeaFit Mugicha contains zero sugar of any form because the product is just roasted barley. There is no added sugar, no artificial sweetener (no sucralose, aspartame, stevia, acesulfame potassium, saccharin), and no maltodextrin filler. The nutrition label confirms zero total sugars and zero added sugars per serving.

Is TeaFit Mugicha suitable for low sugar lifestyles?

Yes. TeaFit Mugicha contains no added sugar and, per the nutrition panel, essentially no carbohydrate contribution worth noting at 2 grams per 7.5 gram serving. It fits cleanly into a low sugar or no added sugar daily routine, alongside the rest of the TeaFit range built around the same standard.

Where does TeaFit Mugicha come from?

TeaFit Mugicha is made from organic pearl barley sourced directly from farmers in Nashik, Maharashtra, then roasted using the traditional Japanese mugicha method. The category itself originates in Japan, where roasted barley tea has been a household staple for generations; TeaFit brings that roasting tradition to real, organic, regionally sourced Indian barley.

How do I make a cup of TeaFit Mugicha?

Two methods, both simple. Hot brew: add 1 teaspoon of roasted barley to a cup, pour 200 ml of hot water, steep 5 to 7 minutes, then strain. Cold brew: add 1 teaspoon of roasted barley to a glass, pour 200 ml of water, refrigerate 2 to 4 hours, then strain and serve chilled.

How much caffeine is in TeaFit Mugicha?

None. TeaFit Mugicha contains zero caffeine because it is made from roasted barley, a grain, not from tea leaf of any kind. This is a genuine zero rather than a "naturally lower" figure — unlike Hojicha or Lemongrass, which still use a tea leaf or tea extract base, Mugicha has no tea plant material in it at all.

Does TeaFit Mugicha contain any allergens?

The ingredient itself is a single grain: roasted barley, which contains gluten. The pack label states the product may contain gluten and is manufactured in a facility that also processes products containing tree nuts and milk extracts. There is no dairy, no nuts, and no soy in the formulation itself.

Can I drink TeaFit Mugicha vegan, and does it work with milk?

Yes, TeaFit Mugicha is naturally vegan as a single plant ingredient with no dairy in the formulation. It is traditionally drunk plain, hot or over ice, with no milk added. A small splash of milk or plant milk can be added if preferred, though this is not the traditional preparation.

Is TeaFit Mugicha as good as roasting my own barley at home?

For consistency, TeaFit Mugicha is the more reliable option. Home roasting raw barley requires sourcing the right grain, controlling pan heat carefully to avoid a burnt or underdeveloped roast, and roasting in small batches. TeaFit Mugicha takes that process and delivers a consistent, organic, Nashik-sourced roast in every pouch.

How is TeaFit Mugicha different from other roasted grain teas or barley tea bags on the market?

Three differences. First, the grain: organic pearl barley sourced from named Indian farmers in Nashik, not commodity barley of unspecified origin. Second, the format: loose roasted barley meant for a reusable steel strainer, not paper tea bags or dust-grade fillings. Third, the formulation: 100 percent barley, no flavouring, no added sugar, no filler of any kind.
